What to expect on an open-air army jeep tour

  • Your guide and driver meet you in your hotel lobby in the Old Quarter for a short safety briefing.
  • The jeep is a Soviet-era UAZ-469, once used by the Vietnam People's Army. It is open-air, so the night air is cooler, especially in summer. Bring a light layer for evening tours.
  • Water is provided on the tours, and several tours include coffee, lunch or dinner.
  • The Hanoi By Night City Tour starts at 19:00, so have dinner first.
  • Some tours include a helmet or a rain poncho. Ask us if the weather looks wet.

Places you will pass

  • Hanoi Opera House. The largest theatre in Vietnam and a historic landmark.
  • Tran Quoc Pagoda. Hanoi's oldest pagoda, on a small island in West Lake.
  • Train Street. Cafes beside the railway tracks, where you can have an egg coffee as a train passes.
  • Long Bien Bridge. A century-old bridge over the Red River.
  • Hoang Hoa Tham bonsai street. Known for its trees and flowers.
  • Banana Island. A farm and local houses a few kilometres from the centre.
  • Co Loa citadel. An ancient capital said to date to the 3rd century BC.
  • Bat Trang. A ceramic village with the oldest kiln and many workshops.
  • Duong Lam village. Houses said to be 350 to 500 years old.
  • Ba Vi National Park. Mountains rising over 1,200 m.
